3.1.2 Data

A street network file was acquired from Computer Innovation (a private company contracted by the Greater Vancouver Regional District Transportation Group), and service facilities were entered manually from the Telus Vancouver telephone book.

Through the network analysis, a service network was generated to examine the type, density and number of services available within a given travel time from Burnaby Mountain (10, 20 and 30 minutes). Existing and proposed additions to the transit system, routes and transit stops were examined to consider their service value for a community on Burnaby Mountain.

These network analyses followed the same procedures in calculating travel times away from SFU. The bicycle network did not account for rush hours, either in the morning or evening hours, since bicycles are theoretically not affected by traffic congestion. The bicycle network takes into consideration the speed limit. Slope was calculated into the speed equation.
